Lower-Middle-Upper Back Pain: Common Cause
Back pain is one of the most common medical problems, affecting 8 out of 10 people at some point during their lives. Back pain can range from a dull, constant ache to a sudden, sharp pain. Acute back pain comes on suddenly and usually lasts from a few days to a few weeks. Back pain is called chronic if it lasts for more than three months. The most common cause of back pain is the back muscles have been strained. The injury could be due to: a sudden movement, an awkward fall, lifting a heavy object, or a sports-related injury. Not much can be done for strained back muscles except for a short period of rest (for up to two days), pain relief medications, and to apply ice and/or heat. Fortunately, most episodes of back pain—about 90%—clear up with little or no treatment in about six weeks, reducing the need for medical intervention.
Lower-Middle-Upper Back Pain: Ice
Ice is most effective if it is applied as soon as possible after the injury occurs, usually within 24 to 48 hours. As with many muscular injuries, a cold compress, such as that provided by the WhatEver PocKits kit, should be applied to the back pain area several times a day, up to 20 minutes each time. The cold slows down the circulation of blood.
Lower-Middle-Upper Back Pain: Heat
After about 48 hours, heat is recommended. For many people, heat works best when combined with other treatment, such as physical therapy and exercise. Heat is appealing to many people because they do not want to be cut, on or take drugs back pain relief. Using the WhatEver PocKit kit to provide both heat and ice therapy for back pain relief is both inexpensive and easy to do.
If the pain does not diminish and movement remains restricted, a visit to the doctor is recommended.
